Description

The stock operator/accountant is responsible for the flow of merchandise from the point of delivery to the point of sale. She is responsible for contributing to the profitability of the retail operation by receiving, handling, and helping to manage the inventory of merchandise and supplies in a timely and organized manner. She is responsible for applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by compiling information, preparing profit and loss statements, and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures. Tasks involve: - shipping merchandise and supplies in and out of inventory to the point of sale; - receiving, unpacking, processing, organizing, and storing merchandise; - checking merchandise and supply deliveries for accuracy; - verifying that quantities received match bills of lading, purchase orders, and other documents; - maintaining ongoing and proactive communication with the point of sale about new arrivals, order overages and shortages, and delivery delays; - enabling compliance with designated inventory levels and help prevent run-outs by accounting for merchandise and supplies; - providing daily accounting and documentation; - participating in periodic inventory audits; - helping decrease store shrinkage and reporting suspicious activities to loss prevention specialists; - compiling and analyzing financial information to prepare financial statements including monthly and annual accounts; - ensuring financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures; - ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close; - establishing and monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures; - resolving accounting discrepancies and irregularities; - continuous management and support of budget and forecast activities; - monitoring and supporting taxation issues; - developing and maintaining financial data bases; - ensuring accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses; - analyzing and advising on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments and future revenues; Education and Experience - previous warehouse, logistics, stock, receiving, inventory, or retail experience may be required - accounting degree or equivalent - knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles - knowledge of economic principles - knowledge of auditing practices and principles - knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations - knowledge and experience of related computer applications : VISUAL DOLPHIN Key Competencies - planning and organizing - multi-tasking - versatility - verbal and written communication - attention to details - goal driven - attention to detail and accuracy - information and task monitoring - problem analysis - judgment and problem-solving - supervisory skills
